Designer Mitchell Black Wallpaper Installation in Richmond, VA

Wallpaper can completely transform a small space, and this recent powder room wallpaper installation by 89-Paint is a great example of how a bold wallcovering can give a room an entirely new personality.

For this project, our team installed Mitchell Black Nomalanga wallpaper in the Olive & Linen colorway from the Forbes Masters collection. The large-scale geometric pattern combines warm, neutral tones with a distinctive graphic design, creating a dramatic focal point while complementing the room’s existing white trim, hardwood flooring, and traditional architectural details.

Rather than limiting the wallpaper to a single accent wall, the pattern was installed throughout the powder room for a fully finished, designer-inspired look.

Precision Matters with Patterned Wallpaper

Installing a large-scale patterned wallpaper requires considerably more attention to detail than simply applying wallcovering to a wall. The pattern needs to remain consistent from one panel to the next while also working around corners, doors, electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, the vanity, toilet, baseboards, and crown molding.

The Nomalanga pattern has prominent horizontal lines and oversized circular elements, making accurate layout and pattern matching particularly important. Our installers carefully positioned each section so the design flows around the room and maintains the visual impact intended by the wallpaper designer.

The crisp white crown molding, baseboards, door casing, and other trim provide a striking contrast against the Olive & Linen wallcovering and help frame the finished design.

Powder Rooms Are Perfect for Bold Wallpaper

Powder rooms are one of our favorite spaces for designer wallpaper installation. Because these rooms are typically smaller, homeowners can choose a more dramatic pattern without committing to it throughout a large living space.

A bold wallpaper can turn an otherwise utilitarian half bathroom into a memorable design feature of the home. Geometric wallpaper, botanical prints, textured wallcoverings, grasscloth, and other designer wallpapers can all work particularly well in powder rooms, bathrooms, dining rooms, foyers, and accent spaces.

This Mitchell Black installation demonstrates how even an existing bathroom can feel dramatically different simply by introducing the right wallcovering.
