How to Touch Up Problematic Spots on Your Interior Paint Job

Performing a paint touch up on fading paint or stain spots in your wall could be very problematic of you are unaware of its appropriate process. If you fail to use the correct paint color on your touch up, it might produce a more unattractive effect on the Richmond interior painting of your walls.

However, you can still do some things in order to make sure that your touch up would be perfect for your interior walls. Here are some of the different steps you should do in order to appropriately retouch faded and stained spots on your interior walls.

Understanding paint flashing

Paint flashing is a term used to describe the difference between the colors of the original and newly touched up areas on your walls. Usually, flashing becomes obvious to the eyes of an observer when he views the wall or ceiling from the side rather than from below.

You can prevent this from happening by priming up your wall with flat latex paint before applying fresh coats of paint over such spots. After applying a shiny finish on your walls, you can now begin touching up some of the problematic spots on its area.

Choosing from paint colors

You should be very careful when choosing the paint color you would use for retouching your fading or stained walls. The only way to select the right paint color is to use only what is left of the previously used paint on your walls. If there is nothing left from your previous buckets of paint, you could just bring this to the store and ask for the exact same product from home improvement or hardware clerks.

Touching up various paint types

Different methods are used for touching up various paint types. Fading areas in walls with flat paint, trim molding, and shiny paint are treated according to the kind of paint that was used in them.

Flat paint is touched up with the use of paintbrushes or rollers. Before touching it up, make sure to shake and mix the paint well. Before using the entire solution for the retouching, you should apply a few of it first and observe whether it mixes well with the original color of your wall. When the paint dries up and you can still see the part you touched up, then your touch up would not look very presentable. If this keeps on happening, you can use the paint from break to break method instead.

Meanwhile, shiny paint includes those with eggshell, semi-gloss, gloss, or oil-based paint products. This kind of paint could be very hard to retouch because of its texture. You would need to use the paint from break to break method for touching up shiny paint, then cover the entire wall surface with new coats of paint in order to remove any sign of flashing.

Lastly, trim molding also needs a specific method for touching it up. You should locate the paint breaks on your wall and use these as marks for painting from one break to another break. Such points usually look like two different pieces of molding that have come together in the corners of window frames or doors.

These are only some of the things you should remember when touching up problematic spots on your interior paint. Always remember these tips in order to succeed in retouching your Richmond home's interior paint job.
